Our client plays a vital role in the lives of everyday New Zealanders. Hosting one of Canterbury’s largest and most complex IT environments, they are seeking an experienced Platform Engineer (Cloud) to join their team

This role will see you joining a progressive, community focussed organisation that genuinely cares about its people and its culture. Here you will be playing a pivotal role in the migration, capacity, performance, operation, and technical innovation of Cloud Infrastructure utilising AWS and GCP.

What you will do:
You will be responsible for setting up cloud capability and leading cloud security and automation initiatives from design to implementation, with a strong focus on DevSecOps best practices. Your work will involve architecting scalable and secure cloud infrastructure solutions, optimizing performance, and ensuring operational excellence across the enterprise.

Technically, you will drive the development, automation, and continuous improvement of enterprise cloud infrastructure solutions, serving an internal user base spread across a wide range of businesses within the South Island. You will work closely with development and security teams to implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC), enforce security compliance, and streamline deployment processes using CI/CD pipelines and cloud automation tools. Additionally, you will contribute to enhancing monitoring and alerting frameworks to proactively manage system performance and security.

Skills and experience we are looking for:
To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate the following:

• Degree qualified in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or a relevant field
• Experienced in leading cloud implementation and tooling
• Skilled in modern engineering methods, including DevSecOps
• Knowledgable in:
  • Cloud computing and infrastructure technologies, including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Server Administration, VMware vSphere, Bash, Linux, Kubernetes, Docker.
  • Cloud automation toolsets, including GitHub, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Terraform Cloud, Ansible, Keyvault/HashiCorp Vault.
  • Cloud management & services, including AWS CloudWatch, AWS Well-Architected Framework, Log Analytics, TrendMicro VisionOne, Splunk, ServiceNow, Dynatrace.
  • Identity Management, including Microsoft & Azure Active Directory, OKTA, HashiCorp Boundary.
  • Networking & Security, with proficiency in TCP/IP networking, reverse proxying (TCP, HTTP), and troubleshooting tools (DNS, TCP, HTTP/CDN).
• An excellent communicator with the ability to work effectively across teams and stakeholders
• An expert in analytical and quantitative problem solving to make informed decisions
