Deployment Engineer (Fixed Term)

Our client is seeking a contract Deployment Technician to play a key role in a large-scale technology infrastructure programme.

What our client can offer:
This is a hands-on, field-based contract role embedded within a structured and well-governed technology deployment programme. You will be part of a team executing approved technology changes across a large multi-site estate, operating within clear change controls and supported by strong project leadership. What you will do:
As Deployment Technician, you will execute approved technology changes across multiple sites accurately, safely, and within defined change windows. You will make go/no-go decisions on arrival, carry out installations and configurations to specification, and ensure a clean handover to Operations with verified functionality and complete documentation.

You will work within strict change controls, maintain rollback discipline when conditions aren't met, and keep systems of record up to date throughout. You will collaborate closely with the project team, escalating risks and issues through the right channels rather than improvising. In this role, doing it right matters more than doing it fast.

Skills and experience we are looking for:

• Proven hands-on experience performing technology deployments in field, retail, or multi-site environments, including installing, removing, and validating IT or network equipment.
• The ability to follow detailed runbooks, test plans, and change instructions accurately and without deviation.
• Strong communication and coordination skills, with confidence working alongside non-technical stakeholders on site.
• Experience updating systems of record such as CMDBs or asset management tools — you understand that documentation is as important as the physical work.
• The ability to work independently during night deployments and travel extensively across the South Island.
• A safety-first mindset with strong attention to detail and a genuine commitment to quality and thorough documentation.

The following experience would be an advantage:

• Experience in retail or distributed site environments and familiarity with structured deployment or project delivery frameworks.
• Exposure to monitoring or logging tools and a basic understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, or store technology environments.

Candidates must be based in Christchurch and available for field-based work, including out-of-hours deployments and frequent travel across the South Island. Applicants must also hold valid working rights in New Zealand and a full NZ driver's licence.
